I've deleted a couple of links from my Favorites and they will stay deleted
until I log on the next time. Sometimes they don't show up right away, but
will pop back in while I'm in the middle of something. Am I doing something
wrong? Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution? I'm kind of
new at this, so anything's possible on my part :-} Thanks for any help
anyone can provide. I'm also a newbie to this site and feel fortunate to
have found it. BTW, I'm using XP SP2

There may be other explanations, but the two I can think of:

Either you have a malware infection, or you're foolishly using
Internet Explorer with scripting enabled(*) and a site you visit is
doing this.

(*) If you do, you have lots of company from other people who have
become victims of various Web exploits.

A: Maybe because some people are too annoyed by top posting.
Q: Why do I not get an answer to my question(s)?
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

Thanks, Stan, for the suggestions. I've run and re-run all my spyware,
malware, adware programs and everything is clean. Also, I checked my IE
properties and the "Disable Scripting" box is checked. This a minor problem
in the larger scheme of things, but one of those annoyances that bugs the
heck out of me. I'll certainly entertain any other suggestions anyone might
have. Thanks to all for your help.

Hi,
This *really* sounds like a malware problem. No one program can remove
everything and many of the current malware programs have to be removed
manually with HijackThis and expert help.

See these sites for help, including the posting of a HijackThis log to one

Thanks for all the sites to check out. I have a couple of programs that run
on schedule, but will try these and see what I get. It sounds like I may be
shocked!! I appreciate you and Stan chiming in to help me out.

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to
make. A few, but not all, of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
Kaspersky
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.

Thank you, Frank, for offering some further suggestions. I haven't gotten
around to checking out the fixes Don suggested, but do see that I use 4 of
the programs you have on your list, so maybe my problem is there. I use
Spysweeper, Spyware Doctor, Spybot & Windows Defender. Maybe I'm using too
many????

As a relative newbie, can you tell me more about the Safe Mode? I know
about booting into Safe Mode, but am not sure if I'm supposed to do something
with the programs on the list you provided that I use BEFORE or DURING (or
NOT AT ALL) when using Safe Mode. I'm not sure what the protocol is, I
guess, for using Safe Mode.

I appreciate the time and info you guys have provided to help me out. As I
said, it's probably a minor problem in the larger scheme of computer
troubles, but minor irritants have a way of escalating.

When you first turn the computer on, keep tapping F8 until a menu appears.
Choose to boot into Safe Mode. This may rearrange your desktop icons. You
will not connect to the Internet and no programs you installed will be
running, including whichever security program is causing the problem. Make
your changes and restart the machine without tapping F8. Your changes
should stick.
