some advice on cards...

Hi all,

Having been a Nvidia man all my life I am making the crossover. I know
bugger all about ATi Chipsets, and am looking for an affordable card that
will allow me to play all the top FPS's in a decent state. without choppy or
sluggish performance.


my machine is a P4 2.53Ghz with 1GB RAM PC3200 80GB HDD.I am looking to put
the car into a 4x/2x AGP Slot.

I have had my eye on a few cards. namely...

GeCube's X800XL AGP, 256MB
GeCube's X800GTO AGP, 128MB
Connect3D's X850 Pro 256MB, 256MB

I currently run a chuggy BFG Nvidia FX 5500., 256MB

Which is my best option for upgrade? I've no idea which is faster, better
value or better reliability. I am comparing against what i know and that is
an Nvidia 6800GT. Do these cards match?

If there is another Radeon in the same price range that offers similar or
better specs then please let me know. I am looking for a new product from
the UK market so also if you know where I can buy cheap that would be a
massive help...

Ideally I would like a 1,2,3 against those cards listed if possible -

Please help me out...

I upgraded (quite a while back now) from a 9800Pro to an x800XL
and I love it. Great on FPS's - great on racing sims - rFactor

the points above are quite good.... I would highly recommend that you stick
with a 256meg card as more and more games are requiring a lot of video ram
;)

First the pattern pf agp 1,2,3 are i think differrent and you should
check for your and see on the internet if the card will fit iin the
agp 2 of yours. also you should check with the manufacturers web site
if it compatible for agp2 slot.

the x800xl shoul be the cheaper and it should perform in3dmark05 well
enough and get around 5000 point

the gto should have the same but 100 or 300 more in 3dmark05 but it
would cost a few 20$ more...

the x850pro is the most advence one and can be seld at a good price
near the x800xl on some internet web site. so you should check a lot
of place before buying. also if your up to buy a second hand video
card like on newegg or e-bay. the x850pro should be a good target.

IE: 250$-270$us with no taxes...
