when I log on to the web, the no. of bytes sent far exceeds
the no. of bytes received.i am unable to open any webpage.
someone could be trying to upload information from my
comp.the tcp/ip shows an error also.

the computer regularly has to communicate with the ISP to let it know it
is still there, as do some programs that may be running (like spyware
for instance).

trust me, if you had a hacker coming into your system, you would notice
a bit more than a few extra bits here and there.

could also be a worm. they tend to scan other computers on the internet
(usually within your subnet). that would show more bits being transfered
than what you may expect.

You may want to run the NETSTAT command. It will show current connections
between your computer and other computers, and you can then investigate
those that don't make sense.
