I've seen multiple threads on this topic, and wanted to
share what worked for me. My problem was that
apprimately 1 in every 2-3 attempts to Remote Desktop my
XP Workstation would result in a gradual loss of
the "screen painting" until I finally get nothing.
Trying to force the remote PC to reboot in this condition
is a struggle.
On the remote XP box, I went into Display properties,
click Settings, click Advanced, click Troubleshoot, then
lower the "Hardware Acceleration" slidebar a notch.
Lowering it one notch seems to have worked for me; I
haven't had a problem since.
I hope this solution works for all of you who are plagued
by the same problem.
