For those of you who are planning to migrate their loyalty away from
Microsoft then look no further then this link:

<http://tinyurl.com/mguwwvf>

You don't need any patches and the machine will go on and on and on
until you die. No need to worry about patches and all that.

Go and buy that stuff and forget about Windows Newsgroups or forums.
They are not for you guys.

You can add "preview" to those URLs, so we
don't have to add it ourselves.

http://preview.tinyurl.com/mguwwvf

That makes it easier to see the actual link,
before clicking on it.

It's just an article about Chromebooks.

Which is just a Linux box with stuff missing.

and the Google Chrome web browser with an

From what I understand, all the apps are in the cloud. So, no
internet, no apps.

Precisely. It is for people who don't like anything Microsoft.. No
need for patches. Linux doesn't do patches. Only Microsoft does patches.

Correct, but XP users won't have Internet access in a year's time
because web designers will stop them from accessing their sites.

Isn't that an assumption? If you were in business, would you design, or
redesign, your site so that possibly 20% of computer users can't access it?

The thing is Web designers and creators are always looking for new
technologies and currently HTML5 and CSS3 is the vogue and XP users
can't access this because IE8 is not up to the job. So by accident XP
users are excluded from participating in the trend. Of course, they can
always rejoin the moderen world when they have Linux, MAC or latest
windows system. The choice is theirs and only they can control their fate.

But web designers don't own the business. Maybe the web designers want
the fancy stuff, but if the boss is more interested in sales and profits
over bells and whistles...

I agree, I dont open blind links, it can take 10 min. to open some of
this stuff on dialup.

So one can install some variety of Linux on any PC, then install Chrome
and have the same thing, right?

I reinstalled the Windows installer of Puppy Linux in the XP folder
again. It's small and only takes minutes to install, and dont interfere
with Windows. I've never figured out how to make the WIFI in my laptop
work from it, or a modem at home, but that may happen eventually. Then
if I was to install the .PET file for Chrome, wouldn't I have the same
thing? PLUS having a regular computer with Windows and Linux too????

I tried to make one of these Chromebooks do something at Walmart, I
could not get it to do anything...... Of course there may be some trick
needed, which I dont know!

What a bunch of rot.

No one should be using IE8 anyway...

however Chrome and Firefox will continue to get updates and should work
fine for some time to come.

I have machines here that are 20 years old and still can access the
Internet so I hardly expect XP to be shut down in a year.

You mean, you were trying to turn the display upside-down,
and didn't succeed :-)

There's a user manual here. As near as I can tell, you
should have been able to use the browser. And type a URL
into it. And without a Google account, that's probably it.

Who uses IE anyhow? Other broswers don't work to make money for MSoft,
so they keep pace with technology , and yet work with older OSes.
