Note: In no way am I claiming a 100% satisfaction
guaranteed. For me, this solution worked, but it may very
well be that something else is causing the below
mentioned issues to occur for you. If so, I suggest
posting a new topic with an as detailed as possible
description. My advice is to, also, mention that you
have, indeed, tried this solution already as to prevent
people from pointing you here again.

I have noticed that several users here have reported the
following issues with Microsoft AntiSpyware:

1. The setup wizard when opening Microsoft AntiSpyware
keeps getting displayed. Uninstalling and reinstalling
doesn't fix it.

2. Automatic updates remain inactive even when the user
has activated them. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't
fix it.

3. Scan schedule remains inactive even when the user has
activated it. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't fix
it.

The problem lies with the fact that, for some reason,
when installing a new version of the program, it does not
uninstall the old properly. (Or at least it seems so.)
The solution to it is simple, and is listed below:

Go to www.download.com and download an uninstaller. I,
personally, used Your Uninstaller 2004, which can be
found at this link:

http://www.download.com/Your-Uninstaller-2004/3000-2096_4-
10369477.html?tag=lst-3-1

Install the uninstaller program (I smell a sense of irony
here lol), run it, and find the Microsoft AntiSpyware
program. Select it, hit uninstall and it will first start
the standard uninstallation utility. Once done, the
program will search for any remaining files and registry
keys left behind by Microsoft AntiSpyware and prompts you
to delete them, so just hit 'Delete All' (If you're not
certain you can check the files for yourself.)

All done. Reinstall Microsoft AntiSpyware and now the
before mentioned problems should no longer occur.

Happy Spyware hunting!

Hi, Roy;

Not to rain on the parade, but users should keep in mind that many 3rd
party "uninstaller" utilities will sometimes interact with the actual
installation of a program to the point that they cause install errors
themselves. And some of the less carefully written ones can cause
Registry corruption to a crash; meaning you will have to either use
System Restore (if available) or wipe the system and start over.

I'm not saying not to use them if you find one that is reliable and
works for you. Just wanted to toss out a word of caution. :)
