This isn't a question but a solution. I placed a message
here 11-13-03 with no help forthcoming but today found the
solution. I had upgraded to W2K and SP4 and came up with
different, unrecognizable characters on all caption
buttons and it seemed there was no answer anywhere. But
the solution is in the "Marlett.ttf" font. It has to have
the "hidden" attribute in properties. So if you delete the
font or set the "show all files" in the settings you will
get these same characters. Just reinstall the font or
change the attributes to show it as a hidden file. Hope
it's alright to give a solution, if not just let me know
and I won't do it again. Being new I'm still unsure what
you can do. Thanks, Randy

You just saved me a load of additional work trying to sort this out.
thank you.

By the way there are some lovely versions of Marlett here, if you need
