Solid State hard drives. Yeah or nay?

I'm thinking of getting a solid state drive for my boot and critical
programs and the local computer guy may be getting a 60Gig as trade in for
a customer that wants to get a 120Gig. This means I can get the 60G dirt
cheap.

I don't know the model etc yet and was wondering if you guys had any good
ideas about what I should be looking for (or looking out for).

I don't want to get burned like I just did with a 500Gig Seagate SATA that
just went belly up. Seagate's fault for the crappy drive and mine for not
backing up enough.

Thought I'd ask to help prevent another disaster.

Apparently, there's considerable variability from brand to brand in terms of
speed. Search the eeepc forums for discussion

Check out reviews for this specific drive. Some are very slow.
And there are the current Intel ones that may lock up if you
mess with the ATA password. And there are those that get
very slow after a while or are slow to begin with.

I'm using an OCZ Vertex 30GB SSD for the boot drive on my new setup and
the performance is excellent. (It is coupled with a large conventional
drive for bulk storage.)
