With its huge wingspan equal to that of an Airbus A340, and its proportionally tiny weight – that of an average car - the HB-SIA prototype presents constructional and aerodynamic features never seen before. These place it in an as yet unexplored flight envelope.

This little plane is due to take off for a round-the-world flight, on 21st June (there;s a countdown timer on the website: http://solarimpulse.com/ ) Some interesting videos and interviews on the website.:thumb:

Good find TC :thumb:. I've seen unmanned solar powered aircraft, but never a manned one before - it's quite incredible to think that someone can circumnavigate the earth in a machine powered by the sun!

I hope he makes it... it won't be a comfortable journey!

Neat find
