Tried to upgrade to IBM Personal Communication 5.6 from
IBM PC 5.5. Complete uninstall is not possible .. nothing
visible remaining on the PC wither in directories or in
the registry for 5.5 but the install process to 5.6 still
detects some object existing for 5.5.

Had the same problem last evening when trying to install
Norton Utilities 2004 .. uninstall process could not
delete all components of Norton Utilities .. had to do
selective install for 2004 omitting the problem component
which may never get installed.

I suspect the problem lies within WinXP .. has anyone
experienced problems upgrading software for other
products under WinXP??

Workaround... When I encounter an issue like this I typically reinstall the
app that did not uninstall correctly. I find that more often then not I can
then uninstall the app without an issue. The only times I tend to encounter
an issue like this is when a software product has been updated and the
previous version was not uninstalled. Many software vendors, Symantec is
one, have utilities on their websites that can be run to clean up any files
left by an incomplete uninstall.

Hope this helps,
