Is there any software out there that can monitor the
condition of the motherboard battery??

No. The WinBond chips that are used for monitoring Voltages are never hooked
to the CMOS battery. When you start to lose CMOS settings then it is time to
replace battery.

A handful of motherboards implement a "CMOS battery low" warning at
POST. Given that the few of these I've seen had already lost the time
setting I've conluded that either Users Don't Pay Attention, or that
the warning is triggered when the time setting is lost :)
 
Depends on how much time the PC is disconnected from the mains, and
whether you have "reconfigured" the BIOS from Default.

CMOS batteries die after 5-8 years on average, from what I've seen.
Some sooner than others, of course. Legacy P1s and 486es, if still in
use generally need a CMOS battery replacement. Few p2 and newer do.
