Software to extract a ttf from a document?

Is there a way to extract a font from a document? I made a
handwriting font a couple of years ago but my backup CDs are corrupt
and I can't find the ttf anywhere else but some saved documents. I no
longer have a scanner to re-create my printing so desperately need to
extract the font from the files I've found it in. No good to re-save
the file as something new or anything like that, I really need the
ttf.

Is this even possible? Thanks!

Wow. Such a program would be very, very cool. Unfortunately, I found
this though:

http://www.planetpdf.com/forumarchive/34479.htm

and these:

http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/08.08.96/cover/fonts2-9632.html
http://www.smu.edu/csr/Sum98-4-Mezrich.pdf
http://www.typophile.com/forums/messages/4102/672.html

so it's unlikely that such a program would be out there at all, much
less freeware. More likely if such a program exitsts, it would be
considered by some to be warez.

I was not clear enough it seems.

I made a font of my own printing using a scanner that I had. This was
about 2 years ago.

I no longer have a scanner, it broke. I only have the font in a Word
template format that I created. This is my own font and has nothing
to do with PDF. I had no idea re the other issues.

Again, my question stands, is there a way to extract that font as a
ttf so that I can use my own font for other applications? This is
_my_ font and so all the other issues are meaningless in this
situation. Tx.

You're still not being clear.

How did you make a font using a scanner?
That's a pretty good trick in itself.

Maybe you should ask in a group or forum that deals
exclusively with Word.

If nothing else works, maybe you can try to recreate the
font style.
I know your scanner no longer works, but you can follow this
site's instructions to create a close resemblance. -
http://www.fontifier.com/

Why scanner? If you have your font ebmedded in your documents, you can
use the text itself as a font source.

Why scanner? - I made the font of my printing using a scanner with a
special program. I no longer have a scanner so cannot re-create this.

And why I need the ttf itself, like anyone needs a ttf, here are just
two reasons:
1) WP not installed on target computer so can't even access it where
I'm going so I can't re-create it in Word.
2) I need the font for other uses and for that I need a ttf file.

The question _still_ is the same, as seen in the subject line - can
one extract a font from a document, or not?

Thanks!

Maybe Raymond Mercier's FontList

"FONTLIST 4.0 is a Windows program which runs on Win 95, 98 or Win NT.
It is designed to produce a list of the names of all the fonts which
were used in any of the following files: WinWord 6,7 or 8 (Word97)
WinWord templates RTF for Word MacWord 5, 6 Wordpad, WordPerfect.
It also gives a list of embedded fonts. Provision is made for
downloading embedded Truetype fonts from version 6 or 7 Word documents.

FontList 4.0

There is also version 5.0 which runs on Win NT, Win2000 and XP.

Sietse,

You misunderstood me probably. What I was thinking was that you could
export the file to a .pdf and more easily extract the font from it
from what I had read. However to answer your question, I was saying
that such programs probably don't exist because of the reasons at the
links I gave. I know that your use is legitimate, but since *some*
(not ME by the way) might consider such software as being warez or
even illegal they either may not exist or only be available at warez
sites.

Hope this clarifies things.

Sietse,

Sorry, I meant to say "Fitwell". My apologies. And Sietse may be the
one with a solution for you.

I see, i have to explain a bit more ^-)
You can use your existing documents to prepare images for each letter
and re-create TTF e.g. with fontifier.

Is you have told, the font is your own one and you need it to get it
again very much. OK, it's not so hard work to return your lost values.

Am i right that is *the only one* font and that it is *really your*
font? :-)

If so, the way i propose is not so horrible!
