My DVD drive has stopped reading DVD's. It reads normal CD fine. I've
cleaned it but it still doesn't want to read the DVD's. I've tried
removing it from the listing in Win98SE's Device Manager I've tried
reinstalling the driver necessary for my DVD card just incase. But
still nothing. So I was wondering if there was any software that can
examine the hardware of the DVD drive to determine if the DVD laser is
out of whack or something.

DVDs are read by a different lense to CDs inside the drive. Therefore I
suggest that you clean the DVD lense with a DVD lense cleaner. Having said
that my CDRW/DVD combo drive stopped reading CDs for ages then all of a
sudden with no other changes started reading them again perfectly. Maybe
some speck of dust got blown off and everything went back to normal. Try it
at least.

Interesting prediction.

Yeah I tried cleaning it. Perhaps I will have to do it over several
passes
