Software RAID in Vista

Hello All,

I'd like to know if Windows Vista, or any of its versions, supports software
RAID 1 and 5.
If not, is this changeable in the registry, somewhere, or is it hardcoded
into Vista?

Thank you all in advance for your help!

Taym,

I did a google search and found the following response to the same question
on another forum:

"Vista itself does no array building on its own, hence the in BIOS setup and
raid drivers you need to install for Vista to see the array."

Personally, I don't know, but from the above statement, I'd conclude that
you should be able to find software that you can install in Vista to perform
software array functions. You might look for something like that, if you
don't get a better answer here.

If Vista needs external software, I am surprised Microsoft did not use the
technology they have already in place on Windows Server. It works perfectly
there, and it is very versatile. While in XP software RAID was disabled, I
was hoping that Vista could be instead capable of that. What would the reason
be for not making existing techgnology available? I don't think Windows Vista
can compete in any way with Windows Server. On the other hand, a software
RAID 1 is just so good for every user, to protect their data agaist hardware
failure!

I really hope Service Pack 1 enables software RAID!

You cannot install Windows Vista on a dynamic disc.
The disc must be reformatted and setup as a basic disc.

You cannot select or format a hard disk partition when you try to install Windows Vista
