It's probably your hard disk. Download & run the free diagnostic
tool that every disk manufacturer makes available on his web
page for his his brand of disks.

I'm running Windows 2000, dualbooting with Windows 98. I have two hard
drives, one is a 40g Western digital and the other is an old Compaq 7.5g.
About 3 weeks ago, while working away, I started hearing one of the drives
speed up and make a horrible mechanical sound. Lately it has been getting
worse and I am no longer able to boot into Windows 98. Even booting into
Windows 2000 has become iffy.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Is this a hardware or software
problem?? I have been thinking about getting rid of Windows 98 anyway
since I never use it anymore and wonder if I start over, Format over
windows 98 and boot strainght into 2000, if this is likely to cure the
problem?

Thanx for the suggestion. I tried it and learned that my small hard drive
is faulty.
