I purchases a copy of PowerPoint 2002 for my home desktop
and would like to load it on my new Sony laptop to use for
travel. The sales people and CompUSA said it was possible.
How do I contact Microsoft about this without having to pay
for the tech support? Thanks

There is a thing called an End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).

Read you EULA (the OK boxes we tend to just click instead of read when
installing software). I've found it varies with product and packaging.

In some cases you are allowed to install an MS product on a desktop and a
portable. Read the agreement. Do a search for the text "EULA" on your c
drive if you are not sure where it is.

Depending on the version of 2002 you bought, you may or may not be allowed
to do this.

The EULA will tell you:

You won't have to pay for a tech support call; if the EULA permits a second
laptop install, you'd install the software, it would allow you a certain
number of uses before it went into "reduced functionality" mode. Before it
does that, you'd have to register, by phone in this case since it's a second
install. ISTR that it's a tollfree number, but in any case you won't have
to pay for tech support.

I did this myself with no problems. The activation worked over my
internet connection without me having to phone MS Tech Support. That was
with the Pro & the Standard version, but ymmv...
