Software Not Running

I'm not sure if this is the right place. When I double-click software
app I only see the hour glass and then nothing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Erm..... Hasn't it occurred to you that we can't help if you keep the
name of that malfunctioning application a secret? No one can possibly
help if you don't provide at least a modicum of pertinent information.

Generically speaking:

Have you verified that the application in question is in fact
WinXP-compatible? Have you performed the most basic (and generally first
step) of remedies: removing and reinstalling the malfunctioning
application? Have you consulted its manufacturer's technical support
for assistance?

Try disabling your antivirus software.
Try rebooting into Windows' Safe Mode and retest.
Try uninstalling the unidentified "software app" and reinstall it.
