Hello,
My XP machine will not let me load any new software onto it. When I
start the installation of the new software, i.e. Office 2000, the
initial screen comes up to enter Name, initials, CD Key. As I am
inputting the information the screen just disappears. No error codes
are displayed. I can restart the process with the same results. What
can cause this situation?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
DougV

Is there a problem with any of your keyboard keys sticking? Try watching
what you're typing and see if the same thing happens at the same place each
time.

Hello,
The resolution to this problem turned out to be a trojan that had
infested my machine. After cleaning my computer with AV software the
problem went away. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the feedback.

Christ, I inadvertently erased your post. Here is one copied from the
Google Newsgroup archive.

"I accidentally uninstalled wordpad and the volume control how do I
reinstall
them?"

Put WinXP CD in drive > Exit (bottom Lt.; stays inside for the rest of the
operation)

Start > Run > type in msconfig > OK
General tab > Expand file (bottom Rt.)

For Wordpad,
File to restore wordpad.ex (not exe, which is the shortcut)
Restore from D:\i386\
Save file in C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories
Expand

For sound volume,
File to restore sndvol32.ex (lower case L before 3, not numeral 1)
Restore from D:\i386\
Save file in C:\WINDOWS\System32
Expand

Use Browse. Also, assuming D: is your CD drive, and C: boot partition (if
not, put in the correct drive letters accordingly). WinXP CD is an
Installation CD (if it's a Recovery CD, not sure but try anyway)
