Software Licensing error?

I just started with Vista last night, so naturally, I panicked when I saw my
first error message:

Software Licensing reported an error
Code: 0xC004D401
Description: The secure licensing service reported a system file mismatch
error.
 
I probably should have asked a question... What does this error mean, and
what should I do about it?

What AV program you using ... I have the same error that only started after
I installed KAV ... now I cannot un-install it.
 
I downloaded avast!... come to think, it did start right after I installed
that... uh-oh.

Same error here... "0xC004D401" secure licensing service error...

also i think after i installed antivirus software...

i have kaspersky 6.0 beta (v6.01.326)...

could it be it?

Yep, I would say so ... I had to re-install Vista ... have no problems, as
long as I do not install any AV program. LoL

Not a worry for me, I'll continue with the rest of the experiment. ;-)
 
0xC004D401 after kaspersky 30 day trial installed (shortly after reboot)
But it seems to be scanning......

Also AVG free install rejected by OS as unsupported

couldn't find squat on the net.

did not attempt uninstall....but did set restore!

Anyone with similar prob used restore successfully to extract Kaspersky?
 
I got the Vista Beta 2 and I get this error too, but I have NO antivirus
installed and didnt try to install any! :(

Pls help me how to get it away as it comes multiple times a day and is
!REALLY! annoying!!
 
I get the same error going into control panel but have loaded the CA anti
virus software. I don't think these problems are linked to anti-virus.
 
Hi,

Im also getting that error, However the virus systems do not seem to cause
it as it appeared on systems without antivirus. TrendMicro has a virus
scanner designed for Vista and works very well. So theres my recommendation.

Regarding the error. It appeared on my system after i removed Windows
Defender from the startup list. Maybe this has something to do with it.
Either way, any more information on the problem would be helpful for solving
it.

I had several Blue Screens of Death yesaterday and today, twice, after the
second time I got the software licensing error. Have not installed anything
onto my computer since updating to vista. have had Vista on 3 weeks now.
 
Yes, I was having trouble getting tons of blue screens on this system I just
build just to test out Vista and Office 2007. The only way I could keep it
from bluescreening and rebooting was to go in via Safe Mode. I started this
system with 512 Ram and Tuesday I got my 2nd stick of 512 and put it in there
and it hasn't blue screened again. Weird.
 
-- I have been running Vista since June and had Trend at the same time and
about 4 weeks ago started getting the same error. I have been everywhere in
the Microsoft sites trying to get an answer to this problem but no luck. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled the Trend and for a week no error then it
ran the weekly scan and back it was. I then went to Avast and installed their
anti-virus no error for about 6 hours and then I wasn't even in the room and
heard it come back. Once it comes back I go into the welcome center and none
of my info is there and there are 7 register Windows icons below, I also
cannot get into anything from the start button menu. Does anyone know what to
do?
