Need help troubleshooting Group Policy/Software
Installation - nothing is showing up in 'Add new
Programs' on client computer.

Created an OU, setup a group policy, user configuration,
added a software package .msi file, added user to
security tab, installed RIS, added client computer and
GUID of computer(shows up in the RIS client list).

When the client computer boots up it is recognized by RIS
and walks the the RIS process. The client computer does
not show anything in 'Add New Programs'.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I'm somewhat confused by your question...

Software Installation in Group Policy installs packages (MSI's) onto
existing systems either by user or by computer... RIS is an OS Installer
methodology... Are you installing the OS using RIS and then you want
software installed to a specific user after the OS is installed?

I'm trying to enable Software Installation from Group
Policy. I don't know if RIS is a prerequisite of
Software Installation or not?

Still not able add new programs from Windows 2000.

Created a OU. Added a user to the OU. Created a Group
Policy, ran computer configuration and added a package.
Did the same with user configuration.

Used utility: gpupdate /force(did not prompt for reboot),
secedit/refreshpolicy machine_policy to update group
files. Rebooted machine. Used same username that is in
the OU related to the Group Policy.

None of this has worked. Client for Windows is installed
on client machines. Client for Netware is also on
machines.

Why is software installation not working?
