Hello
I need a program for picking random files from a directory (and subdirs)
and copy them to another one. That should be done until the destination
directory reaches X Mb.
I've searched in google groups but found nothing, so does someone know of a
freeware software that can do this?

Thanks

Bye

I've never heard of such a utility, but that doesn't mean there are
none.

Can I ask what you are trying to do? There might be other approaches
if no specific utility is located.

I've got a directory that contains many subdirs and each one of these
contains mp3 I made from my cds (1 subdirectory = 1 album).
Now I'd like to burn a cd with random files and listen to it in my car.
I'm searching for a winamp plugin that could do this but so far I've found
nothing... :(

The "Shuffle" function in Winamp plays files back at random, just open the
main directory and sub folders in Winamp select Shuffle and convert to
wave...

There is a program that's called Flashshuffle (IIRC) which does exactly
that, copy mp3's to a new folder with a set maximum size , I couldn't find
it on google, maybe someone else has it or knows where to get it.

So get/use an MP3 ouput plugin for Winamp and use that rather than
DiskWriter. Or use DiskWriter and encode the output. Either way you can
use various plugins to cross fade (blend end of one with start of next), set
the voulume of each so they are the same, etc. More in fo in my dandies
below under "A Few Favorite Programs">"Winamp2.x"

Another approach would be to use a Winamp plug-into copy or move selected
playlist files to a common folder for burning. EZ-Playlist is one such
plugin. It will even randomly select enough files to fill a CD - exactly
what you want. See my dandies for more info.

Thanks for the advice, that was what more or less I was searching for.
Anyway now I'm trying the software Ian Riches suggested and it looks like
it does what I need.
Thank you :)
