Hi members,
When I open System Restore, I find plenty of entry showing Software
Distribution Service 2.0. What is SDS 2.0 and why is it getting so many
entries - some times as many as 7-10 entry per day. I find this entry on all
restore points. Any answer.

Also I would like to known why certain software ask me to install .NET frame
work 1.x when .NET frame work 2.0 is already installed. I guess like other
software frame work should be backword compartible ?
Thanks for your reply.

Dilly,

"Software Distribution Service 2.0" is "Normally" the name given to System
Restore Points triggered by updates from MS using Automatic Updates or the
Windows Update site (I would guess that the same goes for Microsoft Updates
as well, don't use it myself so I can't say). This would include automatic
updates of Windows Defender.

The only reason I could imagine getting several in one day would be if you
downloaded more than one update in a day. For example if on Patch Tuesday
you downloaded each of seven (7) patches separately you would get seven (7)
"Software Distribution Service 2.0" SRPs. If you download them all at once
you should only get one.

Hope that helps

Don't know nuthin' about .Net

..Net frameworks are distinct--if a program needs 1.x, it needs 1.x, not
2.0--both can be installed at the same time and may need to be.

(Don't blame me, I'm only the messenger--I actually know very little about
..net, but that's my understanding.)

....and if that's not enough, NET framework 3.0 is just around the corner if
you're going the Vista route. Apparently it's a superset and includes 2.0
as well as Vista specifics.
