Software Distribution.. how to place an icon on the desktop?

Hi:

I am about to distribute some software to a group that has a mix of systems from XP to
w98, and am wondering how to place an icon on the individuals desktop. I expect to use a
combination of PKzip and Bat files to set up the whole thing, but am foxed as to how to
refer to the desktop, since there can be different desk tops depending on who is signed on
to the system.

Any suggestions for software (Setup software etc) or procedures would be much appreciated.

How about taking a look at the free Inno Setup, available for download at
http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php. You can create very professional
looking setup packages with this.
