Whats up with the complete lack of CPU's for sale these days for this socket! It's old now obv but only two years! I cant find a decent CPU anywhere for my mobo!

What and where can you recomend I go, kinda looking to do a little upgrading on my comp

Check my sig for specs, but was assuming another gig of ram, 8800GT and a new CPU would do the trick to run COD4 and possibly Crysis even if it isnt at top gfx!

Whats your budget? May be worth saving and building a new rig as your gonna upgrade the core components.

Im not sure if I can suffice to building a new rig! So much moneys involved!

I mean, to play COD4 to a decent standard on my lil moniter, what dya think I should get? budget, well i dont really want to spend over £200 but I can push that up, need suggestions really on what you would do :)

And my gosh! I googled it and checked on some sites I know, all they had is the 3800!

If you can track down a FX-57 or 60, get it.
i upgraded from a 3500 to a FX-57 - not big jump, but it made a difference in games and apps

It has better performance im guessing, but the fact it isnt duel core kinda puts me off ... or is that not an issue

TBH, £200 including an 8800GT dont leave a lot for the rest of the kit mate.

What res is your monitor?

Right mate, imo, if you can stretch to £250 or a little more then you should be able to do it. :)

Heres £220 worth of gear, add another 1gb RAM and your there.

What RAM do you have at the mo? Corsair what? Value? This maybe?

Part of the reason i said maybe you should save and upgrade id because 939/DDR kit is actually quite expensive now! That stuff i linked to about is £35 for 1gb DDR 3200. You can get 2gb of Geil DDR2 6400 from OcUK for £35!! THIS

:)

Personally i'd save your money, then go C2D, 8800GT etc and sell your old gear on ebay. I cant see the point in upgrading old tech personally. But its your money. The 8800GT's should come down in price sooner or later, as the new GTS's are out in a month or two.

But you pay your money you take your chance. :)

I dont pay VAT on a lot of computer things I buy so I guess I am lucky! If i bought that kit I wouldnt pay VAT so I think £200 or there abouts is alllll good

And my screen is TINY small small atm, I am looking to get a 19inch widescreen for xmas though.

And I understand your point, with the replacing and stuff, but i dont want to look at spending another £500 - £600 at the mo, even though I could use some of my old computer parts ... like the HDD, PSU and Case

How much would a rig like mine sell for? WOuld i be better off selling it as one unit, or selling the parts seperatley :O May be worth myself popping onto Ebay and finding out :P

Well if you want to buy something now, maybe get the GT and then get a new MB, CPU, RAM etc later

What size if your monitor atm? 15" 17"?

Get friends and family to chuck some xmas cash in the pot and go for one of the 22" Samsungs , you won't regret it .
Hasn't Mike the crunching king got a box full of dual core 939's he isn't using ?

Mike heyyyyy - who is this Mike you speak of? Tell him he may have a customer! :P

And a diddy little 15 at the moment, it's so cute!

So if i were to get the GT, would the rest of my components bottleneck it a lot?

Mike's the American guy that camps at PCR now and again. :)

Your CPU and only having 1 gb RAM will bottleneck the card imo, I still say hang on, and save your cash imo.

But its up to you.

Hang on for what though?

May wait untill Febuary, b'day then! More money to spend :)

Well il buy COD4 and see how it runs, if its crap and lame il buy a 8800GT :p

Hang on until you got the cash to build a new pc. You managed until now aint ya?

I know, but I wanna play COD 4 without being ****ed off at how much the gfx sucks compared to Belloni's machine!

Not that I have COD 4 yet so I have no idea what it will run like on my rig :O Im assuming pretty poor, but you know may get lucky :p

Guess not, lemme borrow your disc tomorow when I pick you up then, just to see if it works! :p
