I went to a computer store today, and I found out that the Athlon64 bit
for socket 754 if more expensive than the one for socket 939 (same speed
and same L2 cache).

Is socket 939 more powerful than socket 754? What are the benefits?

Socket 939 has a better memory controller which supports dual-channel,
the newer chipsets are more advanced than socket 754, and it has more
upgrade potential.

Having said that, the performance rating numbers take the socket
differences into consideration. Therefore, there are always clock speed
and/or cache differences between similarly rated processors on socket
754 and 939.

i.e.

754 3000+ 2.0GHz 512KB 130nm Clawhammer
754 3000+ 2.0GHz 512KB 130nm Newcastle
939 3000+ 1.8GHz 512KB 90nm Winchester
939 3000+ 1.8GHz 512KB 90nm Venice

Thank you. Good to know. The price is also fairly higher.

Don't forget socket 754 may not be up-graded to Dual core. While you
can get 939 as a single or dual core.
