I won't install CCC. I don't need .NET wallowing around consuming my
precious, gaming resources. I only have a Mobile Athlon XP (@2575) so I
need every clock cycle I can get for gaming. If only I had the money for an
X2 Athlon 64...sigh...

$300 to much for you???

I think he's using the fuzzy math we all use when justifiying purchases
where anything up to $399 == $300 ;).
I think you can get a slower X2 and a basic m/b for in the $300 range.
I got my Opty144 (single core) and AsRock mb for just over $200.

I've got a 6800 Ultra in my gaming rig (waiting a month or 2 before
getting an X1900) - but as bloated as CCC is, doesn't it only consume
resources when you actually load it? And can't you get around it with
a good tweaker util?

Don't they use CCC too? I thought they did. This has been posted
before but I'll post it again. If you don't want to use CCC then just
download the raw driver only and then install Ray Adam's ATI Tray
Tools to get access to various features of your card. No CCC and no CP
installed.

Various features? ATI Tray Tools doesn't duplicate all the
functions of ATI's CP, or CCC. E.g. I need to create custom
screen resolutions, and can't without either CCC or a third
party add-in. It sucks compared to ForceWare.

The only thing CCC and .NET consumes is RAM, about 30 MB of it. Don't think
it actually increases CPU utilization.

BTW, if you copy the 5.12 CP files from the 5.12 installation dir into the
6.3 installation dir, the CP will show up as an option when you install 6.3.
Of course, features like adaptive AA and and geometry instancing won't be
accessible thru the CP without a third-party app.

You just have to look harder now.. but their will always be a version without
CCC.

Don't forget when Omega updates to 6.2 they will be without CCC. He's decided to
stick with the old version per his note on his site.

Are you currently using the NGO install? How well does it work?

See my post in the same thread from yesterday. It's easy enough to
incorporate the CP from 5.12, but the CP is missing features like adaptive
AA and geometry instancing.

I'm currently on Omega's based on 6.1's. I use powerstrip but if you install the
ATI Tools he includes you can access those fancy features like AI and such.
