So, isn't it about time for an update ?

Well, now that SP2 for XP has come and we didn't get even a tiny
browser upgrade (popup blocker excluded) isn't it about time we
get a real update ?

Not that I think MS actually reads these groups but I'm starting to
get really tired of this crap, make a 6.1 version that has at least
standards
compliant CSS support !

Remember Netscape ? Don't think that this can't happen to you, at the
moment Firefox is a much better browser, if you are going to ingore the
issue until the release of Longhorn you are making a huge mistake !

But they didn't upgrade the actual BROWSER, a popup blocker and a
management for plugins is not an update to the HTML rendering, the CSS
support and all the other stuff that is much more important.

Popup blockers have been around for free for a long time, what did this
change ?

I'mt alking about updating what makes the browser tick, Firefox has a much
more standards compliant browser with proper CSS2 support and even some
CSS3 support.

I consider IE6 SP2 a vastly improved and much more secure browser.

In Windows, IE = OS.

No one is forcing you to use IE.

You are completely missing the point or you simply don't
understand what I'm saying.

It's pretty obvious that Firefox is better to anyone that does any
kind of web development, all I'm saying is that MS need to get a
grip or they stand to loose a lot.

We need a standards compliant IE because it's on more than 90%
of peoples desktop systems, is not about what I personally use.

SP2 would have been a great opportunity to roll out an update
but they missed that opportunity.

IE is more than just a browser, is my point: It's basically what the OS is
built upon. Changing IE drastically means changing the OS, too, a much more
complicated piece of work. Longhorn is tentatively scheduled for release
sometime in 2006. You will see "browser improvements" then.

I'm not defending MS, just stating what's what.
