So, I don't need a new router -- my current one is just weird

You may remember my post a week or two ago when I said something was
messed up with my router and I was considering a new one. Well, that's
partially true. My network configuration only works if I have the
cable to my switch in the leftmost port of the router. Anywhere else
and you get all of those terrible circumstances I described.

Can anyone explain this? Does the router give priority to packets from
jacks in leftmost order? If I plug my switch into any other port on
the router it WILL suck ass. I can't explain it.

All the plugs on your router are the same - except the WAN port of course.
Older routers MAY have an uplink port (Ethernet wired backwards), but if you
plugged into one of these your connection wouldn't work at all.

What model number is your router. What do you have plugged into each port...
and what's plugged into those devices (if there is something further down
the line)
