Yup, after I executed the swenfix.exe and swentool.com the files assn
for both EXE and COM are pointing to an Ryk.... exe application and
they cannot be changed via the File Assn tab (W98). When I try to the
Edit option is greyed out!

has anyone seen this? and can anyone lend a tip as to how to change
the file association so I can reinstall the anti virus?

Thanks in Advance.

Yup, I got exactly the same thing. I went thorugh all the alleged procedures
for returning the file associations - and guess what you need to do - run
regedit.exe and change the setting!!!!!! lmfao

The only way I found that actualy worked was a format

1. Download http://invircible.com/download/xswen.exe to the affected computer
hard drive (or from another computer to floppy, if your PC can't connect
anymore)

2. Restart the computer *from its own hard drive* to 'command prompt mode' (by
tapping on the F8 key when restarting - option 5 or 6 on the multiboot menu)

3. When at the C: prompt, run the XSWEN.EXE downloaded program from where you
saved it (or with the command A:XSWEN if you saved it to floppy)

That should fix your problem.

Interestingly, F-secure has a tool that you rename to the
filename swen makes the registry ask for, then it evidently
does the registry patch to allow you to run the other tool
which is a comfile.

I have used a similar technique, but this is the first time I
have seen a removal tool do it.
