I am installing a 2003 standard server on a 2000 domain and will be
migrating AD and users. Besides Adprep, what is the best way to get a
snapshot of AD structure. Do you have any advice on AD migration, I have not
done this before and it all sounds pretty unforgiving if too many mistakes
are made.

Thanks

I am not sure that I understand why you need a snapshot of your AD. I
*think* that a good backup would be your snapshot.....

Anyway, there is something called ldifde that will allow you to create an
..ldf file ( that you can open with NotePad...not Wordpad or MS Word. You
must use NotePad!!!!!! ) that will hold all of your user account objects and
computer account objects and groups. With a couple of filters you can have
a very nice file.

Mind you, if you are using this as a backup 'just in case...' then you need
to know that this neither backs up any data nor backs up any permissions (
that might be on shared resources, etc. ). It is strictly the accounts
mentioned above.

HTH,

Cary
