This is an alert to the community I felt compelled to share based on my
recent experience with Adaptec's SNAP Servers. We had a simple plan:
to back up one SNAP to another using the S2S replication software
allegedly designed for this purpose. After spending over $1000 on the
licenses, some hours troubleshooting and an hour on the phone with tech
support, we were told that S2S v2 does NOT support filenames with
underscores in them. Simply having files with _ in the name on a share
being replicated will cause the job to FAIL. So if a user creates or
copies a filename with an _ to a SNAP share, your backup will fail and
you won't know why.
Apparently this is described in knowledge base article 12318. While
the article says you cannot have directory or share names with _, I was
told this also applies to filenames as well.
