Newbie question: WMM 2.1 takes minutes to import small (say 10 MB) .avi videos.
Loading my first project (about 10 clips worth 4 minutes of playing time)
takes ten to twelve minutes. What is wrong?
The hardware is Core Duo 6400, 2 GB RAM, ATI X1600 Pro, with XP Pro Sp2.

Hints much appreciated.

Are you importing from your hard drive or an
external source? (should be faster from your
hard drive)

Maybe your virus program is scanning the files?
Try disabling your internet connection, Close all
programs ...especially virus scanners before
opening Movie Maker.

Also it may help to do some maintenance:

Running Disk Cleanup, Error Checking and
Defrag on a regular schedule is a good idea.

(check the two boxes..."Automatically fix file

the next time you restart your computer.
(run error checking repeatedly until it finds
no errors)

Thank you for your time.
Loading from hard drive. Virus scanner not running, disk error-checked and
defragmented. The problem must be somewhere else. To add: when clicking
cancel in the 'import file' or 'open project' dialog, MM hangs for a few
minutes.
