After 6 grueling hours of research and trying every suggesttion I was about
to give up when all of the sudden I HAD SOUND!
Unfortunately Vista does not have a new theme sound. ...oh well
But for all of those that are going through the same pains that I am here is
what I have and what I did.
I have an HP Pavillion 64 3300+ and I installed an Audigy 2 value edition
soundcard.
Before I upgraded I wanted to make sure that there were drivers for VIsta
and having found so I decided to go ahead and take the jump.
Much to my dismay I found out that it was not right for Vista beta 2.

After seeing that it did not work I decided to see if I installed the XP 64
driver that maybe I could fool the system.
The installation went great and when I saw a gree speaker at the bottom of
the screen I was in 7th. heaven only to find out that according to the device
manager erverything was working properly but I had no sound. So after that I
decided to run the Vista 64 installation program again and I must admit that
I was about to go to bed in frustration only to hear the Windows theme!!!!
I hope this can save some time to some of you.
Best of luck. Now if I can only get to import my Outlook messages back into
Outlook I will be eternally grateful and a step closer to a full system.

Your experience is similar to mine. Sigmatel sound on my Gateway M675
did not have sound after the initial install- even after I installed an update from
Windows Update. It wasn't until I ran the Sigmatel installation program for
XP that I finally had sound- how sweet it was, too. I did get bold and when
Windows Update showed there was an update for Sigmatel- I ran it, even
though it didn't work the first time. After a restart, my sound still worked.

I think some folks, after trying other means, should run the installation
program that came with their sound card for XP. If you don't have it,
go to the manufacturer's site and download the latest sound drivers for
XP. Also, check out the computer maker's site for the sound driver/installation
program.
