Hi,

Does outlook 2003 support SMTP with STARTTLS on ports other than port 25?
If yes how to configure it?

appreciate your help and support.

Hi,

First let me give the full scenario: I have an exchnage 2003 server, I have
configured the SMTP service for secure commucnaiton with TLS on port 587 (the
new SMTP submission port). Then configured the outlook 2003 for this SMTP
service, I have tried establishing SMTP connection but it was not working. I
guess that outlook assumes secure SMTP conneciton (i.e. SMTP over
TLS[SSL]),so i have tried TCP port mapping tool, and configured it to listen
locally on port 25 and forward it to the exchnage server SMTP service on port
587, and configured outlook to do SMTP connections with the localhost on port
25. And it has worked.

I don't have currently Outlook 2002 (XP) to test on it and verify this
behavior as the article says.

So back to the main issue, does Outlook 2003 support SMTP with STARTTLS
command on ports other than 25? and if Yes , how to configure it?

Qusay Thiab

No. There is a bug in Outlook 2003 (RTM and SP1) that doesn't let TLS/SSL
work on non-standard ports. Outlook should work on port 25 and the
depreciated 465.

However, Microsoft does have an update that can get Outlook working on
non-standard ports. You choice today is to call Microsoft Product Support
Services and explain that you can't get SSL/TLS working on non-standard SMTP
ports or wait for SP2 for Office 2003.

According to this article Outlook 2002 & up support STARTTLS on ports
other
than 25:

I'd guess you just change the port setting on the Advanced tab in the
account settings.

Hi,

Thank you all for your help, I guess i will wait for SP2 for the time being.
