I'm having a problem where, although I can receive mail
without a problem, I can't send mail through Outlook.
This problem began abruptly, there is an error message
states that the SMTP host couldn't be contacted.
However, I have found that I can telnet to my SMTP
server, but not specifically through port 25. I also
have a VPN program for my University and, while
connected, I can send mail through Outlook. This is,
however, slow and cumbersome.
Recently, I installed MSN Messenger and the MS .NET
software update, and I'm running Windows XP and Office
2002. However, uninstalling these programs did not
reverse the problem. My Outlook settings have remained
the same and I don't have any Norton products installed
on my computer.
Basically, it seems to me that something is now blocking
port 25 or access my to my SMTP in Outlook and that I can
circumvent this with my VPN. Any help on resolving this
would be very much appreciated.
