I have both IMAP and POP accounts in my Outlook 2002.
When I try to send messages using a POP account, I get an
error message. One IT guy Ispoke to said that I need to
change the Port Number for SMTP to something in teh 500
range, be he did not know the exact number. Anyone out
there know the number?

Your IT guy will be the only one who can answer this, if this is on his
network and he has things setup in a non-default way. The default port for
SMTP is 25.

Besides what Ray said, non-standard ports may be in used if you have a
firewall or SOCKS in your way. If you need to use SSL connections then
a non-standard port number is also used. The port number is wherever
your mail or firewall admin wants it. You need to talk with a more
informed "IT guy", one that actually knows how your network and mail
servers are configured.
