I found a great program that was very helpful, but, I can not figure out how
to clear one error. Can someone help,Please? Using gmail, I get an error
reading "the e mail address configured for sending via SMTP is incorrect".
Can anyone help decipher this issue? Thanks

Shawn, Thanks for the info.Unfortunately all the settings are accurate. Why
on earth does microsoft make things so difficult. Do you have any other
suggestions to help solve the mystery? thanks for your time

It looks like you have configured it correctly but
have you ENABLED POP within Gmail itself as described...

Don't forget to save changes.

Is that the complete error message? Usually Windows Mail will
include detailed error codes, server name, and other diagnostic
information.

Here are all the error messages I get

When trying to send I get this message :
-- The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'hard drive ', Account:
'Windows Mail', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10013, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

In addition I tried using GMAIL troubleshooter and it gives me this message
: the e mail address configured for sending via SMTP is incorrect.
Does this make any damn sense to anyone?

Have you double checked the email address you have specified?

Tools > Accounts > your email > Properties > General > Email Address

Check the following too

Tools > Accounts > your email > Properties > Servers > Email User name

BTW which AV are you using?

Julian, Thanks for the help unfortunately, I had no success. Im about to
chuck this brand new toshiba off the 3rd story deck of my house and scream. I
think I know what the problem is but I dont know how to fix the problem. If I
delete the e mail account and reconfigure it from the start there is a email
address that stays the same no matter how often I change it and it is a typo
(.mail instead of .gmail). This is why i am getting rhe error that reads
there is conflicting email accounts. Have you heard of this occuring? Thanks,

Socket error WSEACCES 10013 Permission denied.

Is the From address your gmail address or your MSN address?

Not being able to edit an email address in the account setup is highly unusual.
I trust you have uninstalled any non-compatible antivirus programs,
specifically McAfee and Norton.

Don't you think it is about time that M$ fixed Vista
to work properly with with Norton and McAfee?

....said he with tongue in cheek.

One wonders sometimes if MS has a hidden agenda to cause Norton and
McAfee to falter.
But I learned long ago not to ascribe to conspiracy what can be explained
by simple incompetence.

Frank, true enough, this was the complete error message word for word. Any
sugestions?

I know it is not much help, at least I don't know how to fix it, but it
means...

"WSAEACCES (10013) Permission denied
An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access
permissions. An example is using a broadcast address for sendto without
broadcast permission being set using setsockopt(SO_BROADCAST)"

Norton and McAfee have always caused problems with Windows, at least since
Symantec bought out Peter Norton and especially since Win2K came out.. They
dig their hooks too deeply into the system in places they don't understand
well enough.
