Smoothing Graphics Files

R

Rebecca

I created several templates for a client utilizing a piece of art they
supplied that resembles a swoosh - slightly curved. I imported the EPS
file directly into PhotoShop and added some supplied images, then
saved each image file as a .JPG (10" x 7.5" at 96 dpi), and imported
each one into PowerPoint to be sued as alternate templates.
I think it looks good, but they are wanting the swoosh to be smoother
looking. Is there something I can do to smooth out the curved art, or
will it always be slightly uneven due to the monitor resolution? I
assumed that as the image is built by pixels, that it will never be
perfectly smooth, but if there is a way to fix that I am willing to
try!

Early versions of powerpoint (97) will not smooth out vector art (.cgm .eps
..wmf .emf etc)
So you need to get something like photoshop to do the smoothing for you and
produce a bitmap (.png .gif. jpg etc)

Later version of powerpoint (2002/2003/2007) will smooth out vector art.
So you now have a choice or going down the vector route or the bitmap route.

Each method has their own advantages and disadvantages.

If you go down the bitmap route (jpg in your case), then you need to have
the right amout of pixels for what the output is...

e.g. is it aimed at on-screen use?

If it is then create your artwork with a sligthly higher pixel count.

if they are using the projector/screen at 1024x768 pixels then create your
artwork (assuming it fills the screen) at about 1100 pixels wide.

Photoshop has various methods of smoothing (crisp/and some other names that
escape me)... so experiment
