Spyware can track what you do on-line, it may report what
sites you visit, the better to target you for ad popups and
spam, it may even be a keylogger which will copy and send
your passwords and bank account data to someone for their
use.
Two good programs to get and they are free...
SpyBot Search and Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org
and Ad-Aware from
www.lavasoftusa.com
These will detect many types of evil programs and cookies
and remove them. When you do the download, don't forget to
run their updates, just like viruses, spyware mutates.
Also be sure to run a firewall and keep your anti-virus
current.
| John.... spyware.... I've never given this much thought.
1) Is this a big
| issue?
| 2) How does one know if "spyware" is installed?
| 3) What's the objective of spyware if piggy-backed upon
something like an
| inocent smiley face icon?
