hi everybody.

I was curious if there is a freeware program that allows me to incorporate a
Smiley face into the various email messages that I send. If so, please do
let me know.

Likewise, if there are any types of plug-ins that turn Microsoft outlook
express into something similar to the famous email program: IncrediMail
please do let me know.

Thanks in advance.

followed by a close paren - :)

Has anyone used Smiley Central listed on the link provided above? The
license agreement talks about communications with its servers that you
cannot disable. Is this software spyware?

Rob

Oh, yeah. Big time spyware. Hooks you with an activex control.

OEQuoteFix is a great program but it only displays the smiley faces. You
need other software to correctly choose and insert the smiley faces (unless
you know the cryptic punctionation to enter! :) )

Most of them are created by the usual emoticon conventions, aren't they, like
they are in various IM clients? Not really hard to enter :( .

They've found a great distribution concept: people who can't understand
emoticons unless they're yellow and right side up aren't going to be
aware of something like malware.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting.. The web site says that Smiley Central
is NOt spyware. But considering what it says in the license agreement, I am
very wary...

Doesn't that one install a search bar or something in your internet
explorer?

Schmaili is good, I have that one installed.
Just make sure you go into settings and change the launch method.
I think the default is to launch the program as your cursor passes over
the icon.

If you mean a graphic, any program that lets you attach files would do
that. Be aware though, that many people are becoming wary of file
attachments for security reasons and may simply delete your messages
unseen. Many e-mail programs do not show graphics inline and so if
your intent is to do that, it won't be compatible for everyone.

Text versions can be typed into signature files. I could, for example,
have a sigfile called "happyface" (+whatever extension may be needed)
that includes :) and then select that one when I'm in the mood for
it. For this, you may want to search Google for "smileys" as there are
people who have put up pages and pages of information on how to make
smileys for all kinds of different moods and other features.

Thanks for the link. The choice seems to be between Lalim Smilaye Face
and Schmaili Smiley Pgm.

Rob

Lalim will only display :) in an HTML message.
Not Kool! :(

Open the emoticons.ini file in the main folder, and it has a list of all the key
strokes used for all the smileys available in the programs emo folder.

There is also an amended zip file on the page linked above which has
extra/different emos.
