SMC network card won't start

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't! i'm talking about
the SMC8040 TX Lan Card. when it doesn't work... it gives
a "Code 10" error in it's properties (device manager) and
says something like cannot start or error starting. What
happens is I plug it in... lights go on fine... they work
for a few seconds... and then the whole card shuts down...
so i know at least it is receiving a signal and power. my
laptop is a Toshiba Satellite 1805-S203

We probably need more info.

Its almost sounds like you have 2 separate problems. Not
starting...and shutting down...are not the same thing.

Did you check your Event Viewer?
