I am using windows XP prof and messenger V6.1. Internet connection is through a SMC 7004ABR router. The firmware for the router was updated today. The instant messenging is fine, but today for the first time I tried to use the voice features. I can have voice communicatoins with other computers behind the firewall but I cannot connect to anyone outside, other then with the instant messenging.

Is this a general problem that people with routers have when audio / voice feature is used? Assuming the problem is my firewall, any suggestions on what I could attempt to be able to use the voice feature to talk to other messenger users?

Hi,

Have you tried to disable QoS Packet Scheduler in TCP/IP settings. It worked
for me while nothing else did.

SMC tech support provided the following solution that work

All you need to do is enable a proxy server in MSN messenger
Open MSN
Click tools > options > connection
click use proxy serve
under server use 192.168.2.1 under port 80 using a HTTP proxy
using the user ID and password from your internet service provider
