SmartMedia card damaged?

I have a 128MB SmartMedia card that can't be read by my computer. The msg
that comes back is that the disc is not formatted and would I like to format
it now? But I have a lot of pictures/videos on it that I want to get off.

Is there any way that I can repair the damaged area of the card, and still
get off the rest of my pixs?

Well, hello again. Here is what has happened with Smart Recovery to date:

Initial install produced an error with a .dll file - solved by following
instr's in FAQ area of site. 2nd install produced another error which was
not listed in the FAQ's, but I decided to reinstall over top of original, and
it repaired the problem.

I started the program, and listed the drive, file type, and destination for
the pix to be recovered to. Out of 128 MB of pix, it restored only one
picture - over 60 times. That is over 60 instances of the same pic. lol

I have an email request into the firm to see if there is something else that
I can do to recover the information on the disc. However, I suspect that it
is too badly damaged to be retrieved. However, when I insert it into my
Olympus 3040 Zoom camera, I can see all the pix. Interesting, huh?

I'll keep you updated if anything more happens.

was worth a try. There are many other programs
for the same purpose. Try a Google search for:

You don't say where the card was when th PC Inspector software was
used--in the camera or a card reader. If in the camera, try using a card
reader.

Good suggestion, I would be interested
in reading the result of that exercise.

The card was in a card reader that is part of my computer system.

An update: I downloaded and tried out 'BadCopy Pro' and it worked like a
charm. I got all my files off the card! Yeeee Hawwwww! lol lol

Now my question is: Can this card be saved? Can I reformat it and repair
or block access to the bad areas? I had a little trouble with it before, but
nothing as bad as this, and reformatted it in the camera, with the options
that come with the Olympus 3040Z. But didn't seem to help.

So if you have an answer to this one, please let me know.

Thanks for the update.

If you reformatted the card in the camera
and continue to experience problems I
would suspect that the card should be
replaced. Maybe there is a guarantee on
the card?
 
I was afraid of that. Oh well. No, the card has passed the warranty date,
so will just have to byte the bullet and get another one.
