Hi,

I'm looking into testing and developing a smartcard solution, and I was
wondering if anyone could give me some advice.

Firstly, where is the best (cheapest) place to buy in the UK.
Secondly, I've seen a few different smartcard types, i.e. Cryptoflex and
BasicCard. Apparently Cryptoflex is PnP with Win2k server, where as
BasicCard requires you to make your own system, however the Cryptoflex cards
are double the price of the others. Is there any software out there to
easily create your own system?

Many thanks

Ben

I usually recommend readers and cards from GemPlus or Schlumberger because
the drivers and the CSPs are already included in the OS.

Hi Steve,

I've managed to get 2 gemplus readers, just trying to get hold of the cards
now, apparently there is a shortage after a manufacturing problem, hopefully
there will be some after christmas!

Cheers

This is true only for the 8K cards, or if you want to waste some money
and format larger cards as 8K cards. For anything over an 8K card you'll
need at least the vendor's middleware and quite likely a new CSP and/or
driver.

You're right about that; all my projects involving smart cards used only 8K
cards from a few years ago...
