I need some serious help. I need to know what "smart
tags" are, what they look like, how to use them and how
to remove them from a document. If anyone could be of any
help I would greatly appreciate it.

Word 2002 Smart tags are well doumented in the Word 2002 help - search for
smart tag!
They can be a bit of a pain and many power users simply turn them off (Tools
autocorrect > smart tags)

They are also largely useless for users outside the U.S.

Hi Suzanne,
They are also largely useless for users outside the U.S.
No, just the ones MS installs with English-language Word
are :-) Smart Tags can be created/programmed to do just
about anything, in any language.
