Hi,

I have hard disk monitoring software installed on my XP Pro machine.

I have two physical hard disks installed, and for one, the software states '
SMART feature set - Supported, disabled'. How do I go about enabling it?

Thanks,

Neil

You have to enter BIOS setup. Of course, it'll be under the IDE settings.

BTW, what software are you using?

SMART alerts are shown on bootup, so you don't have to use software when
it's switched on.

I'm using HDD Health v2.1 Beta from Panatera.

I looks pretty good.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 PC and the BIOS is not advanced enough to dive
in. It just allows very few basic adjustments.

You enable S.M.A.R.T. in your BIOS. Both the motherboard BIOS and drive
itself must support the technology. My BIOS doesn't have a S.M.A.R.T.
option so I can't monitor it.

Cheers. I was looking for something like this.

I have a couple of Maxtor ATA/133 drives on a PCI controller card, so I
haven't been sure whether SMART was enabled on them or not.

I'll keep this running on my server - I really don't want to lose my
backups.
