hi,

How do I set up Vista to accept a smart card when logging on?

....and how to make it work with fingerprint?

I have a pc with both smart card reader and fingerprint reader. And I have
both fingers and a smart card....:-)

To use smart card logon you need to have a domain. This is not a bad
overview:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/guidance/identitymanagement/scard.mspx.

Fingerprints and other biometric devices are not enterprise strength.
Therefore, Windows does not natively support them. Therefore you need
third-party software to do so. Most of that software is pretty weak. It
stores your password reversibly somewhere and fills in the logon form for
you. That is, for example, how the fingerprint reader on the newest Lenovo
notebooks works. That is also how the Microsoft device works:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/fingerprint/default.mspx.
