I remember I had installed a microsoft utility on windows 98 machines
that would enable those machines to control the shared internet connection
on windows XP.
There would be a small icon in the system tray showing the gateway and you
could
right click that and connect or disconnect.

However I dont remember where I found it or whats it called...

can anybody help me???

TIA

Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on the Windows 98 machines. It will
install the utility.
