Small Server

Please forgive me if I don't follow protocol, I am new to groups.

I'm wanting to setup a server in my house for educational reasons.
Basically I'm looking for a small server box which I can place near my
router. Perferably, I'd like to be able to open it, and upgrade, if
the need arises. I'm hoping to install Linux onto it (probaly Debian
as my friend is well adjusted to it).

Any suggestions for a server?

Daniel.

Any computer will do. You can pick a nice IBM from ebay for about $50. If
you want something to really play with search ebay for "server." I like the
proliant series my self. You can get a very powerful server for under $200.
It will consume more power then a new box but for educational purposes a
quad cpu proliant 5500 is perfect, but it is gigantic. If you want
something really small, you can probably find a cheep 1U rack server on
ebay, and a 12slot rack. That way you can stuff 12 more in there if need be
:)

But, like I mentioned, any computer will do. Server is just a PC.

I agree. You don't need a production server; just another desktop PC.
Think about what you want to use it for. If it's just for screwing
around, buy an old PC.
