Hmm, RAR is a propretiary product, so I doubted that they make it
available for free. I loaded rarit, it is just a frontend for the
command line version.

The included rar32.exe identifies itself as:
| RAR 2.71 Copyright (c) 1993-2000 Eugene Roshal 21 June 2000
| Shareware version Type rar -? for help

So, the archiver itself is not freeware but shareware.
You still need a licensed command line RAR version to use it.
Also, the included version is outdated (3.2 is the latest release) and
probably illegally distributed.

Tramp, if you post programs, please check if they are truly freeware and
not just "free for download". (Which can be any program, even Warez)

I go by what's on the web site. In this case the program came on a
magazine cover disk. They says it's freeware. When you click on the about
button , it says it's freeware.

In this case, it is not you who have to be blamed but the magazine who
did not investigate carefully and the author who published it.

The FrontEnd itself and the SFX-creator are freeware.
But without the original compressor (which is shareware) they are
useless. (And the fact that it was included without documentation and
credit is probably just an incidence...)

Clever - the DOS version of RAR has no time trigger, and with the front
end you can use it as comfortable as the Windows version...
Nontheless, one needs a license to use RAR for more than 30 days.
